A synchronous electric motor is an AC motor distinguished by a rotor spinning with coils passing magnets at the same rate as the alternating current and resulting rotating magnetic field which drives it. Another way of saying this is that it has zero slip under usual operating conditions. - They operate synchronously with line frequency. - Sub-fractional horsepower motors have low torque, and are generally used for instrumentation applications. - The power supply frequency determines motor operating speed.
Large synchronous motors are a few percent more efficient than the more common induction motors. - Or, it could be two motors, if an external power source were connected. - If excessive torque or drag is applied, the rotor will exceed the maximum torque angle advancing or lagging so much that synchronization is lost. Torque is developed only when synchronization of the motor is maintained. - The electromagnetic armature is only energized after the rotor is brought up to near synchronous speed.
Characteristics Synchronous Motors are three-phase AC motors which run at synchronous speed, without slip. - Both brush-type and brushless exciters are used to supply the DC field current to the rotor. The rotor current establishes a north/south magnetic pole relationship in the rotor poles enabling the rotor to? Lock-in-step? With the rotating stator flux. Starts as an induction motor. - After synchronization, the Pull-out Torque cannot be exceeded or the motor will pull out-of-step.
Synchronous motors Without complex electronic control, synchronous motors are inherently constant-speed motors. They operate in absolute synchronism with line frequency. - Moderate torque, integral horsepower motors use squirrel-cage construction with toothed rotors. - The power supply frequency determines motor operating speed. - More expensive than the reluctance type, hysteresis motors are used where precise constant speed is required.
AC Synchronous Motors for Advanced Motion Control Technology by Mclennan. - The MV86111 Series is a low speed permanent magnet AC synchronous motor suitable for applications requiring accurate fixed speed drives. - This, together with the high accuracy of stator pole placement minimises torque ripple and provides low audible noise. The motor which is designed for mounting horizontally with output shaft vertically up is provided with an increased length 3mm diameter shaft to aid fitting of the drive pulley.
AC Synchronous Motors for Advanced Motion Control Technology by Mclennan. Reversible AC Synchronous Motors from Mclennan Servo Supplies. Ovoid types providing a choice of fixed speeds from 1 rev/sec to 1 rev/hour whilst heavy duty units offer torque ratings up to 7Nm. Products. - Stepper Motors. - Geared Motors. - MV Series Motors. - Geared AC Synchronous Motors Ovoid geared types provide choice of fixed speeds from 1 rev/sec to 1 rev/hour whilst heavy duty units offer torque ratings up to 7Nm.
4-8 continues to exist. A shaft running through the pivot point of the bar magnet would rotate at the same speed as the rotating field. This speed is known as synchronous speed. - There are limitations to a permanent magnet rotor. Practical motors use other methods, as we shall see in the next paragraphs. SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS The construction of the synchronous motors is essentially the same as the construction of the salient-pole alternator. - It has torque only when it is running at synchronous speed.
